Enjoyed a great split workout on the treadmill and the bike tonight. It’s great that working out and eating right are now very much of my routine after only 3 weeks.
I used to make excuses about not having the time to eat right or get in a workout…I now see that was complete crap. I feel like I have wasted a good part of my life being unhealthy, but I am excited that I am turning over a new leaf.
Tomorrow is bike day…schweet!

Exceeded weight-loss expectations with a 3.4 lb drop this week! With any luck, I’ll be out of the 200′s next week.
Tonight’s workout consisted of P90X…man does that program kick your butt! Also played around with the Wii Fit a bit. Actually has some features that are pretty good…some, not so much.
Made a chocolaty recovery drink with a creatine booster….not exactly a frosty beer, but it’ll do.
Really excited about picking up the bike on Tuesday!

We got a Wii Fit and I got that hooked up in the basement. It’s really quite fun…although I don’t believe it will become a serious part of my training…more of a nice diversion while not just completely sitting on the couch. Has a few neat features and as I play with it, I’ll be sure to pass on anything worthwhile.
Besides doing a lot of moving of items to and from the basement, took another day of rest today. I am looking to do a consecutive 2 hour workout tomorrow and wanted to get in a couple days of rest.
I am optimistic about tomorrow’s weigh-in…hoping for 3lbs this week but think it’s going to be another 2lb week.
Loaded up on slim-fast to use as a recovery drink and going to start incorporating creatine into my diet…I will be sure to report on my results with that.

Took the evening off to relax and rest up a bit. Got a lot of work tomorrow cleaning out the garage and working on the basement.

Enjoyed a good workout day today. Worked from home and decided to get in a hour on the treadmill for lunch. Later this evening I got in another 30 mins on the bike!
Talked a few people about what they do for a recovery drink following a workout and interestingly, one guy I work with, Rob, uses Slim Fast. Rob is an ultra-marathoner so I definitely trust his judgment on that…and hey, it’s a cheap solution too!

Tonight’s workout consisted of finally getting our workout room all setup in the basement. Dawn and I moved our huge treadmill from the second floor all the way to the basement. What a huge pain in the a$$!
The good news is now we have the workout room all setup with a great ceiling fan, flat panel TV and all of our workout gear in one sweet setup.
Starting to research things like energy drinks and supplements to see if I should incorporate that as part my routine. I am sure that down the road I will absolutely need to factor that in, but when is the big question.

I have finally decided on a bike!

After a ton of research and visiting a couple of bike shops, I have decided to go with the Cervélo P1 which I am getting from a great store called all3sports (this is their online store…a link to their physical store is below). Alex and the rest of the the all3sports team were extremely helpful and answered all of my questions.
Choosing the right shop is just as important as choosing the bike and this place really impressed me by how knowledgeable they were and how well they understood my needs. More details about the actual store here: all3sports
I am scheduled to go in and get fitted for the bike next Tuesday using their kick-ass computer system that will setup the bike perfectly for my body. Supposedly the whole deal takes about 2 hours but I think it’s going to be well worth it to make sure I am setup correctly.
Great workout tonight. I split up my time between 30 mins on the treadmill and 30 mins on the bike. It was a nice way to mix things up and really made the workout go by quickly.
Looking forward to some real bike rides next week!

Decided to mix things up tonight and do a little upper body and stretching. The verdict is that I am horribly inflexible and I need to spend a little time each day dedicated to stretching.
Stopped by a bike shop after work today and I think I have narrowed down the list to two bikes: a Cervélo or a Specialized. Both are designed for running triathlons and now it’s just a matter of getting fitted and getting one.
It has been suggested that the area that I can get the most benefit with practice is the cycling phase, so I don’t want to waste any time.

So another week is behind me and there is a mere 189 days left.
My weight-loss for the week was not as high as I would have hoped, but 2.2 lbs is still good progress. I am most pleased about that I am noticing that I feel the weight loss, but more importantly, I am seeing real improvements in my endurance.
Goals for this week are to log a few more hours running, get a bike, and implement more stretching and upper body workouts.
Current Weight: 206.7 lbs
Total Weight Loss: 10.3 lbs

Very proud of today’s accomplishments!
We celebrated Emma’s birthday today and there was plenty of temptation around every corner. While my will was tested, I was able to pass on everything including the birthday cake and the ever delicious looking pizza.
Had a kick-ass 1 hour run and it was the first time I can honestly say that I felt good after I was done running. I feel like I could have gone for at least another 30 mins, but I think I will keep going with the 1 hour runs for just another week or so.
I am very optimistic about tomorrow’s weigh-in and while I don’t expect another 8 lb loss, I will be happy with anything over 2lbs.
