Day 103 : Summary
Rest day…Covington Century is tomorrow!
I loved my Garmin Edge 305 bike computer so much, that I went out and got a Garmin Forerunner 305 computer for running too. It has all of the same features as the Edge 305, but it’s wearable. Had I known that it had the same features as my Edge, I might have just opted to get that.
I plan on keeping the Edge though because I like the bigger screen and they were both pretty inexpensive for all that they do.
Gave the new Forerunner a test run outside with a quick 3 mile run. I have it displaying my total distance, heart rate, pace and total time. After downloading the data, I saw that my 1.5 miles out was pretty much all uphill. It was a welcome downhill run back though.
I love tools like these because they motivate me to workout and really track my progress.
Still a little sore but couldn’t afford to take another night off. I have the Covington Century on Saturday so I wanted to get in a harder workout tonight.
Started off on the bike trainer and jammed out for just under an hour. My shirt was completely drenched and I had a nice little puddle underneath the bike. Got my new aero bar hydration system installed and it worked great.
Jumped off the bike and changed (simulating that transition thing you know) into running shorts and jumped on the treadmill for a quick 2.5 mile run.
Finished off my workout with some much needed stretching. A good workout all around.
Was originally planning on getting in a little bike time but I think I may have overdone it a little yesterday with the P90X. My legs are killing me! Not going to push it today.
A good workout week, the highlight being the fact that I got in a good workout with the new wetsuit. I think I will definitely be using it for my sprint tri coming up next month. My first thought that any gains I might get from the wetsuit would be outstripped by the time it would take to get it off, but I had no problem getting the suit off in a few seconds after it was wet.
Tonight’s workout was P90X and the Core Synergistics program. If there is one thing that I have heard time and time again about triathlon training is that you need to have a strong core. CS definitely does a good job of working the core.
Also picked up a hydration system for my aero bars that will hold about 32 oz. and make drinking while riding much easier. It will be a must for the 100 mile ride coming up on Saturday. Really excited about the ride for sure!
Had an awesome dive at the Georgia Aquarium swimming with the sharks and rays. A nice diversion for sure.
Got to workout in the lake tonight in the new Xterra wetsuit!
After getting used to the feel (a little more pressure on the lungs/chest), I really feel like I was able to slide through the water better. The slight buoyancy boost was nice too.
I was able to do 1.6 miles pretty easily, but stopped after my feet of all things started cramping up. The only remaining challenge really is to workout navigating all of the people that will be in the water. Honestly, I think I could do the Ironman swim phase right now.
Probably take another rest day tomorrow since I am doing a dive at the Georgia Aquarium, but Sunday should be a good day for a nice bike ride.
Feeling guilty about not working out recently, I went for a brick tonight.
The 5 mile run and 28 mile bike ride was a great workout. Now that I am over 25lbs lighter when I started all of this, workouts are definitely coming a little easier.
Test fitted the wetsuit one more time tonight…is it silly that I feel like a superhero with it on?
