Day 124 : Summary

Resting up again…getting all prepared for tomorrow’s sprint Tri!

Going to get everything ready for tomorrow and of course have my now traditional pre-race spaghetti and meatballs from Napoli’s.  I’ll be doing a few things to help me be quicker during the transitions so we’ll see if they pay off.

Hoping that all of the recent rain cools down the lake enough to permit wetsuits!

Day 122 : Summary

So it was back to work tonight and since I have gotten in a lot of bike riding, I decided to do some running tonight.

It was clear the last two days of rest paid off because I ran a 10k with no problem.  I felt like I ran with strength and confidence the whole way.

I read that a lot when I was researching how I was going to train and it was repeated many times over that beginners never incorporate enough rest into their programs.  Admittedly, it feels like I am slacking a little, but after tonight’s results, I am glad I took off a couple of days after working out for 6 of the 7 previous days.

With the sprint tri Saturday, I will probably take another couple of days of rest and see how I perform during the event.

Week 17 / Day 119 : Summary

Tonight’s workout was a quick 3 mile sprint and 20 mins of stretching.  While a couple of my workouts this week were shorter, I was able to workout every night except once.  Pretty happy about that.

My sprint tri is next Saturday and my plan is to take Monday and Tuesday off for rest and do a 2 hour workout on Wednesday, then rest on Thursday and Friday.  I will probably feel like I should be working out, but I want to be sure I am well rested going into Saturday.

A quick weight note, I should be in the 180′s this week for the first time in a long time!

Day 118 : Summary

Awesome bike ride tonight.  Trying to get in a much riding as possible while the weather is cooperating.

Did the 17 mile route and knocked off well over two minutes from my best time and my average speed was up from 16.9mph to 17.7mph.  What was especially exciting was that I spent about 90% in aero position which is going to be important since I burn a lot less energy that way.

My peak heart rate was down quite a bit as well (down from 179bpm to 168bpm).

Pretty minimal workout tonight.  About 30 mins of pushups, situps and stretching.

Day 116 : Summary

Really great bike ride tonight.  Did my 17 mile route again and I improved my average speed a little.  Went from an average 16.5 mph to 16.9 mph.  Happy with that considering it was a little breezy and there was a good bit of traffic.

My average heart rate was up a bit from an average of 155bpm to 161bpm and I would probably attribute that to it being about 10 degrees warmer than the last time.

I am also happy that my Twitter account is finally unsuspended.  It was down for a long time because it got hijacked or something.  Anyway, happy it’s back!
