Day 144 : Summary

Went with a simple run of a little under 7 miles today.  The good/bad news about my workouts are that they seem to be more limited by my available time rather than my endurance level.

With both kids doing soccer, work, typical family stuff and working on Triathlete.FM, I am a little less flexible in my free time these days.  I really feel that I am still getting in quality workouts, but I know I need to incorporate some 2-3 workout days over the coming weeks.

Day 143 : Summary

Taking the night off to work on Triathlete.FM.  Things are coming along nicely, but had to push out our expected go live date by a week.  Wanted more time to practice and line a couple of guests.

Day 142 : Summary

It was nice to get back on track today.  I ate right and had a good brick tonight with 18 miles of cycling and a 3 mile run.  Cramped up a little tonight but worked through it.

After reading through a lot of blogs, I saw an interesting addition to somebody’s special needs bag (the bag of stuff you can grab during longer triathlon events) that made a lot of sense.  I am sure it’s a common item but it never occurred to me.

Potato chips.

It would seem that it’s an ideal snack for potassium and sodium, both of which are good for combating cramps.  I shall investigate further!

Day 141 : Summary

As expected, with traveling today and feeling just a bit drained, I did not get a workout in.

Putting the past several days behind me and going to make up for it over the next 2 weeks.

Week 20 / Day 140 : Summary

Wow…extremely disappointed with my efforts this week.  I didn’t eat as good as I should have and did not put forth much effort to get in workouts either.  Not a smart plan with the 70.3 a few weeks away.

It’s doubtful that I will get in a workout tomorrow as I am already not feeling too hot and much of the day will be spent driving back home from Florida.

Clearly, I will have to put forth an extra big effort for the next 2 weeks so I can taper properly for Augusta.  The downtime and family time was very nice, but there is no room for slacking these next couple weeks.

Day 139 : Summary

Ok…back on track…at least for a vacation workout.  Forced my ass to the gym for a 6 mile run and at least made an effort to eat right.  No mayo on sandwich and fruit instead of fries.

Day 138 : Summary

I suck.  Ate like crap today and no workouts.  Tomorrow must be a day of redemption.

Day 137 : Summary

Heading out of town for vacation…going to enjoy a day off!

Day 136 : Summary

First off, a little charity news…got notified that my cause was going to be on the home page of YourCause.com.  Neato!  On the landing page, click the EDUCATION section and bam! (a one day thing so those of you getting this via email, it may be down already)

On that note, thanks goes out to a high school friend from the Iceland days, Heidi Halabuda (still love to say that name!), for her kind donation to the cause.

Tonight, I made an effort to re-create the scenario that caused me to get cramps during my last 2 sprint triathlons.  Did a cycle-run brick where the ride was very strenuous with some pretty challenging hills.  Right after getting home, I started running.  The result?  Nothing.  No cramps whatsoever.  The only thing I can think of is that it’s somehow a combination of the swim and bike that’s causing the cramps on the run.

I am just not going to worry about it at this point.  Even when the cramps did strike, I was able to work them out after 3-4 minutes and had no problems running.  I’ll just focus more on getting more electrolytes and hope for the best.

Day 135 : Summary

Rest night tonight.  Doing a bike-run brick tomorrow to see if I can’t scare up those nasty cramps!
