Triathlete.FM gets a new face.

JD and I are really looking forward to doing more with Triathlete.FM and the first step was to give it a whole new look and improve the functionality.

We think the site looks pretty great and we’re excited that cool new things like the ability for visitors to submit comments will give the site a lot more appeal.

There are a lot of neat interviews and events in the future for us and hopefully we will have some other broadcasters join the team soon. We don’t expect to get rich off of this venture by any means…we just want to have a lot of fun and connect with the growing triathlon community!

Welcoming a couple of new bloggers.

Just wanted to create a quick post to highlight a couple of new blogs that I will be following!

Dawn Gibson – http://www.triathlonjourney.com/dawn

John Krause – http://www.triathlonjourney.com/john

Dawn just made her first post and John must still be contemplating what he wants to write. Can’t wait to read about their challenges and successes.

Ironman Journey Blog Update

I appreciate your patience as I move Ironman Journey over to a new blog engine.  I am moving to WordPress, which has a lot more features and options compared with what I was using before.  Unfortunately, I have to manually move over all of the old posts, so that may take a while!

At any rate, new posts will continue to appear here and the older posts will eventually get moved over as I have time.

Slight change of plans.

I fully expected to have a nice run outside tonight but after about one mile, the right knee just wasn’t having it.

Not wanting to waste the fact that I got all decked out for a workout, I headed home and just did some time on the bike.  I am feeling really motivated to workout, but I am not going to push myself when my body is indicating that I need to ease up.

Happy that I got in a good workout!

On the road again…

Finally, the weather is actually warm enough (ok…it’s just not freezing any more) to support outside activity and I am officially back on the road.

This evening, I had a really enjoyable 5k run in the neighborhood and it went fairly well.  After about 2 miles, I could definitely feel it in the knees, specifically in my right one.  Luckily, it wasn’t painful to the point where I had to stop.

This past Saturday around 1am, after enjoying numerous adult beverages, my wife and good friend Marc Johnson signed up for Ironman 70.3 Augusta.  They are officially locked into 9 months of peer pressure to get their butts ready for a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and half marathon.  Suckers!

My other buddy John Krause soon followed with his entry so we have a good crowd making the trip to Augusta for the event.  We’re all pretty excited about getting to participate together.

I think I am going to really enjoy all of the events that I am doing this year much more than last year, primarily because I know exactly what to expect and have a much better idea of how much farther I can push myself.  Going into these events not wondering IF I can finish, but how fast I can finish will be a lot more fun.

At any rate, 2010 is going to be a great year and I am looking forward to doing events with all of my friends!

Missing the bike.

Mixed it up just a bit tonight and did a short run, then spent some time on the exerbike.

As I was on the bike, I really started missing the fact that I can’t ride the real thing.  I guess I don’t miss it enough to throw on winter cycling gear and brave the weather.

Looking forward to warmer days so can hit the road soon!

TV or Music during workouts?

I think that I may be a little odd in that I don’t really like to watch TV or listen to music when I workout.  Actually, I guess it would be more correct to say that I don’t like to have headphones on, so it’s probably not music that I am against listening to per se.  During tonight’s workout, I gave the TV another try and I just wasn’t for me.

TV is just too distracting and I find that I tend to lose focus on what I am doing, even if the programming is pretty crappy.

As for headphones, I just don’t like having them on.  I would probably listen to music on an iPod dock, but it always seems like such hassle to get a fresh playlist of songs.  Maybe Pandora would be a good option, but even then, the wrong song can ruin a good run.

No, I think I will just stick to the sound of heavy breathing and my heart pounding…after all, during a triathlon, that’s all you have then too.

One final tear and another 3 mediocre miles.

While I am definitely not back to square one, I hate that I have lost so much ground.  At any rate, it is what it is and I am just going to move forward.  This will be my last blog post to look back at what I did wrong…I will only look forward from here.

I did another 3 mile run tonight and it was an average run.  The plan for the next couple of weeks is just to do 3-5 mile runs to get back in to the habit of working out.

Following the run only phase, I will then revert back to my typical triathlon training regimen, but I will likely work in a little more P90X to help cut weight.  I want to get down to 175 before my first tri and I will need to focus hard on both diet and exercise to get there.

Jan 1 2010

A lesson learned indeed.

Happy New Year!

So I return to my blog in hopes that it will yet again get me back on track.  Admittedly, I allowed myself some leeway in my training and diet since completing my Ironman knowing full well that I would put on some weight.  Ok…by leeway, I mean not working out and enjoying all of the holiday food!

To my dismay, my first weigh in for the year was a little surprising.  I put on almost 12 lbs in the short time since completing the Ironman!

That was very shocking and I am now very aware how deviating from a solid workout and diet program can get me right back to where I was.  Just a little over 2 months of not working out and eating without care definitely set me back.

So, it is today that I once again begin to make an effort to eat better and get back to working out.  To start, I just did a good 3 mile run and it went pretty well.  I did notice that I have lost some of the progress that I had achieved, but it wasn’t as bad as I might have expected when I weighed in this morning.

Game on!
